Dominic Smith Q&A for Goodreads.com

Q&A for Goodreads.com

I just answered some questions for my goodreads.com page. You can visit my page here…

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3339128.Dominic_Smith

Or simply see my Q&A below. I hope they interest you. If you are a writer? i hope they are of some use to you. Feel free to let me know how you would answer.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Simply walk away and do something else, the worst thing you can do is try and force it. Even if it’s a 15 minute walk outside or just a long shower. When i find i’m stuck on a particular part, the idea comes to me when i stop focussing on it so intensely.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Being in control of the story. Taking whatever twist and turn you desire. Life is full of things we can’t control, but when you’re a writer, your story will never be one of them!

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Read more, write more. Just like i’d tell a swimmer to swim more, or a basket weaver to weave more! Practice truly does make perfect.

What are you currently working on?

I have two new stories i’m writing side by side. Plus an idea for another. The journey is the destination, so i’m trying to make sure i enjoy the process.

How do you get inspired to write?

Inspiration comes from everywhere, it’s impossible for me to pin point. I’m currently working in Australia, i just walked through a place called Rymill park in Adelaide, it inspired me greatly. Look around and be in the moment.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

I saw a photo of a bird sat on an elephants back, this brought forward thoughts about the wonderful conversations they might share together. What would the bird: ask? say? be like? How would the elephant: be? sound like? behave? All these thoughts filled my mind and ‘The Bird and the Elephant’ was born.
